Point Grey’s Flea®3 and Grasshopper®3 USB 3.0 machine vision cameras successfully extended up to 100 meters using Icron’s USB 3.0 Spectra™ 3022 extender
Burnaby, British Columbia – April 23, 2013 – Icron Technologies Corporation, a leader in USB and video extension technology, in conjunction with Point Grey, a world-leading designer and manufacturer of innovative, high-performance digital cameras, today announced joint interoperability between Point Grey’s complete USB 3.0 machine vision camera portfolio and Icron’s fiber based USB extender, the USB 3.0 Spectra™ 3022.
The USB 3.0 interface brings tremendous benefits to machine vision applications such as speed, resolution and affordability; however, without extension, the USB 3.0 cable lengths are limited to approximately five meters, creating installation issues when longer distances are required.
Point Grey’s USB 3.0 camera product lines, the Flea3 and Grasshopper3, have undergone interoperability testing with Icron’s Spectra 3022 extender solution, validating reliable operations. “Icron’s USB 3.0 extender technology enables our Flea3 and Grasshopper3 cameras in applications that demand extended cable length such as industrial automation or intelligent traffic systems” said Paul Kozik, Product Manager at Point Grey. “Applications traditionally serviced by analog or Ethernet interfaces can take advantage of USB 3.0 bandwidth and ease of use to increase performance, throughput and lower system cost,” added Mr. Kozik.
