Icron Launches Industry’s First Fully Digital Video Surveillance and Workplace Productivity System

RangerView sets price/performance benchmark, costs thousands less than CCTV and DVR systems

BURNABY, B.C., February 26, 2003 – Icron Technologies Corporation (TSX.V: IT), a leading provider of high-performance connectivity technologies for the computer marketplace, announced the launch of RangerView, the industry’s first fully digital video surveillance and workplace productivity system. RangerView combines the latest digital web cameras with powerful video monitoring and recording software along with Icron’s industry leading USB extended range products to create an affordable and easy to use solution. Icron will be demonstrating RangerView at the International Security Conference West (ISC) in Las Vegas, March 26-28, booth 5119S.

Utilizing an existing computer system, RangerView easily installs in minutes. The digital cameras are connected with standard Category 5 network cable and can be placed up to 100 meters away from the computer. The cameras are powered through the cable so no additional power is required at the camera end, greatly simplifying installation. RangerView is remotely accessible over the Internet, giving users the ability to monitor their environments and review video recordings from virtually anywhere.

RangerView is a cost effective and fully digital alternative to analog based CCTV systems and is ideally suited for many industrial, commercial, office and home environments.

Glen Hilder, principal of Erma Stephenson School in Surrey, BC has been using RangerView to combat vandalism at the school. “We were looking for a cost effective and easy to use system to help us deal with an ongoing graffiti problem. By implementing Icron’s RangerView system along with physical signs identifying the area as “Under Video Surveillance,” we have effectively eliminated the problem. We’ve also installed cameras around the office and front door and now have an effective way to monitor who is coming into the school and to deter any break-ins. With school board budgets tight, RangerView offers an affordable and excellent solution.”

RangerView 4 and 8 camera packages include:

  • 4 or 8 high quality digital cameras or 4 or 8 premium quality, low light digital cameras
  • RangerView Monitor software for video monitoring, recording and playback. Record on motion detection or by variable frame rate· Icron’s USB extender product
  • Camera mounts
  • PCI card providing 4 or 8 high speed USB ports
  • Installation CD with remote access software included

“We designed RangerView to make a serious challenge to the traditional CCTV and DVR systems that are currently offered,” says Suresh Singh, President and CEO of Icron. “RangerView costs thousands less yet offers the simplicity of the same ‘plug and play’ open standards technology that has made the computer industry so successful. RangerView is expandable, flexible and extremely user friendly, offering the level of video quality and software functionality that users expect, but at a much lower price. We believe RangerView opens the door to a whole new market of customers who are looking for high quality and affordable video surveillance.”
